Defective Starter Clutch

I found yesterday that the starter clutch of my 1995 Triumph Thunderbird is defective. :(
That explains why I had problems starting the engine. But this part is in the middle of the engine, so I will have to take it appart. First step, is to set up a nice place to work.

Hey man,
I live in Portland, OR and have the same bike. Got it in September 2005. It's 1997, and now ~8500 miles. Rode it almost every day to work, about 50 miles round trip. Took it to the coast and few other weekend trips and it rode perfect. Two months later, I started having a hard time starting it. Took it to Tryumth service shop and got a 6,000 mile service, and few other things... Got it back about 2 weeks ago - same thing.
Once it starts it is fine, but getting it to start is a nightmare.
Do you think might have a "defective starter clutch"?
How did you know?
And if so how much is the part? I am not much of a mechanic, so I'd have to take it in again and ask them maybe to look at it, so I am trying to estimate how much more it would cost me...

Yes, I do think it's the sprag.

At the dealer, they told me it was the sprag, and they told me that all Thunderbird from 95 to 98 can have this problem...
The sprag itself cost me 350$ can. And for about 150$cad of seals, and other things...
Ask your dealer, they might be able to do something on the warranty...
At my dealer they told me they could have pay for the parts if it wasn't for my 56 000 kilometers... ;)

They told me at the dealer it's a 2500$cad (+ tx) job... So if you don't have much mechanical skills, it might be a good Idea...
